This page provides a short tutorial on how to test the salt level of a pool using test strips.
The salt level readings from the salt chlorine generator will not always be accurate. Testing the salt level yourself will ensure that you don't mistakenly add too much or too little salt.
Note: We used the Aquachek Salt Test Strips. The directions may be different if using other brands.
1. Using a small cup, take a small sample of pool water.
The amount of water should only be enough for the strip to be submerged an inch.
2. Place the strip in the cup of water. The end of the strip with the number 1 should be in the water.
3. Leave the strip in the water until the horizontal line at the top turns dark or the movement stops along the vertical line. This normally takes 4-5 minutes.
4. Look at the vertical line to see where it stopped turning dark. Compare that number to the parameters on the Aquachek bottle.
In our example, the strip read 6.2. This correlated to 2960 ppm of salt.
